FAQs
Is MT-10 Metal Treatment compatible with synthetic oils? Yes, MT-10 is compatible with the major brand-name synthetic oils found in your local auto parts and discount stores. However, should you go outside the realm of these everyday synthetic oils, please consult with our Technical Dept. for further information. There are so many brands in the marketplace that we can't possibly list all those that are compatible with MT-10 here. How long should I wait before using MT-10 Metal Treatment in my new car or truck? We recommend you allow a break-in period of 3,000 to 5,000 miles before adding MT-10 to your new vehicle. This allows a minimum wear pattern to begin and cause proper seating of the rings in your engine. By adding MT-10 after the break-in period, wear will be retarded and proper compression will be achieved in the engine. Will MT-10 Metal Treatment make my oil stay clean and last longer? When your engine has been running with MT-10 initially, you'll notice the oil will be darker than normal upon your first oil change. This is due to the cleaning process that takes place during your first application. Over time, varnish and sludge build up in your motor. MT-10 contains a cleaning agent that slowly removes this build up. Once MT-10 is added to your engine several times per instructions, you will see the oil return to its normal color. We do not recommend extended oil changes due to factory specifications. Follow the maintenance schedule for your vehicle as recommended by its manufacturer. One 8-oz. application of MT-10 Metal Treatment in my engine works great! Will it work better if I add even more? We have calculated the amount of MT-10 per application to be most effective. With this in mind, more is not better. Changing the application ratios would change the parts per million concentration that we have recommended for years. Also, excessive amounts of MT-10 can change the viscosity of the oil, or cause the oil to be displaced. I noticed the RPM's dropped while accelerating to 55 mph in my vehicle. Is this the MT-10 at work? Yes, that's MT-10 at work. The RPM's are reduced due to less friction in your engine and transmission. Lower RPM's translate to more efficient operation of the engine and transmission. More efficient system operation means less energy to get to where you want to go, which translates to better fuel economy as well. Will MT-10 Metal Treatment fix a loud noise in my engine? While MT-10 will quiet a running engine due to the reduction of friction and wear, it will not 'fix' a loud noise in your motor. Loud noises tend to be mechanical problems, and you should see your mechanic as soon as possible. The goal of using MT-10 is to prevent those 'loud noises' from ever occurring. Will my engine leak oil after adding MT-10 Metal Treatment? MT-10 will not make your engine leak oil. The product is compatible with the seals, and the properties of MT-10 are the same as engine motor oil. There have been rare cases in which leakage did occur after adding MT-10 due to a large amount of sludge in the engine. Once MT-10 began to work in the system, it slowly removed the sludge, exposing the seal cracks that were once plugged by the build up. The few cases reported to us involved high-mileage vehicles and/or vehicles lacking proper maintenance. Will MT-10 Metal Treatment hurt my oil filter? No, MT-10 will not hurt your oil filter. Your filter is designed to remove small particles of metal and debris from your engine oil. These particles are of a solid form. MT-10 contains no solid particulates in its formulation that would cause any harm to your filter. Can I use MT-10 Metal Treatment in my transmission, too? Not only can MT-10 be used in your engine, it can also be added to your transmission fluid, whether it's an automatic or standard. Automatic transmissions: add 8 oz. of MT-10 through the fluid tube. For larger transmissions, i.e., Allisons, add 1.5 oz. of MT-10 per every quart of transmission fluid. Standard Transmissions: add 1 oz. of MT-10 per every pound of gear lube. Which MPC product is best for my two-cycle engine? We recommend the use of our FT-10 Fuel Treatment in two-cycle engines. FT-10 contains just the right amount of MT-10 Metal Treatment in its formulation to deliver maximum friction reduction in the cylinder area. Add 2 oz. of FT-10 Fuel Treatment to 5 gallons of fuel. Be sure to continue to use the oil mixture that is recommended by the equipment manufacturer. What is boundary film lubrication? Boundary film lubrication is a lubricant between two metal surfaces. The lubricant protects the two metal surfaces that are rubbing together. MT-10 enhances the boundary film, allowing the lubricant to flow through the two metal parts easier and with less friction between the metal surfaces. A more scientific and detailed explanation can be found on our website under the Technical link. What is lubricity? Lubricity refers to the slipperiness of a lubricant and it's ability to lubricate. In other words, the more slippery an oil, the better its ability to lubricate. What is cold start protection? A cold start is the first time you start your engine after it has remained idle for a period of time. The metal parts become 'dry' as the oil drains to the bottom of the engine when it hasn't been run for a while. MT-10 provides additional protection during cold starts, thus the term 'cold start protection.' Once the metal surfaces have been treated with MT-10, the parts are protected until the oil warms up and circulates through the system. Can I add MT-10 Metal Treatment to my Artic Cat ATV with a CVT automatic transmission that has an Engine Braking System (EBS)? No, do not use MT-10 in an ATV that has an automatic CVT transmission with EBS. The Engine Braking System works on the basis of metal-against-metal friction to slow it down. Using MT-10 will reduce that friction, along with the engine's ability to slow down the ATV which may free roll itself. |
